Ingredients
- ¼ onion
- 1 bell pepper
- 4 ounces mushrooms (112 g)
- 1 ½ tablespoon olive oil (23 ml)
- ½ teaspoon oregano, dried (1 g)
- 3 ounces beef strips (84 g)
- ½ tablespoon soy sauce (8 ml)
- 1 ciabatta
- 1 ½ ounce cheddar cheese, shredded (42 g)
Preparing this recipe
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Cut the onion into thin rings and the bell pepper into thin strips. Slice the mushrooms.
- Heat half of the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion, bell pepper, mushrooms and oregano and cook until they are soft and lightly browned, about 7-10 minutes. Remove them from the pan and set aside.
- Heat the remaining oil in the same pan over medium to high heat. Add the beef strips and cook until they are done, about 3-5 minutes. Season with soy sauce, salt and pepper.
- Add the vegetables back to the pan and mix well with the beef strips.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the bun on it. Bake the ciabatta bun for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven. Let cool slightly and then cut open lengthwise.
- Divide the meat-vegetable mixture over the bottom half of the bun. Sprinkle the cheddar over it and return to the oven for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheddar is melted.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Place the bun on a plate and put the top half over it.
- Serve the healthy Philly cheesesteak immediately while it is warm.
