Ham & cheese croque monsieur with cottage cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard (7 g)
  • 2 slices bread, whole wheat
  • 1 ounce grated cheese (28 g)
  • 1 slice ham
  • 2 ounces cottage cheese, 4% milkfat (56 g)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)

Preparing this recipe

  1. Spread the mustard on one slice of bread and sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top. Layer the ham over the cheese and place the second slice of bread on top.
  2. Spread the cottage cheese over the top slice of bread and season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the sandwich for about 2 minutes, until golden brown. Cover the pan with a lid to help the cheese melt.

1. Sprinkle with fresh parsley after cooking for extra flavor.
2. For an oven version, preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place the sandwich on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15 minutes, until golden and the cheese is melted.
